The International Youth Climate Movement
Around the world, thousands of young people are working to solve the climate crisis
before it is too late. These regional and national organisations are connected
through an international network – the International Youth Climate Movement, or
IYCM).
A key part of IYCM’s work is facilitating youth engagement with the United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change. As an official non-governmental
constituency (known as ‘Youngo’) young people have an ongoing presence within
the UNFCCC process.
The Conference of Youth (COY)
For several years, members of the International Youth Climate Movement have
converged in the days prior to the annual UNFCCC COP negotiations for the
Conference of Youth.
Each COY brings together hundreds of young leaders for a three-day conference
focused on capacity-building, skill-shares and campaign collaboration. It is run by
members of the International Youth Climate Movement, and the event planned for
Durban this November represents the seventh Conference of Youth.
